Work on the historic Alameda Theatre is progressing well. Lighting was been installed, the carpet is layed, new seats have been install downstairs, and the old curtain has been cleased and restored as much as the current budget allows. A leak in east wall was discovered during the terrible storms in January. The leak is being repaired and didn't effect the schedule at all. Plans are underway for the grand re-opening party. When details become available, we'll list them on this site.

Last Legal Hurdle Cleared
CA High Court Refuses To Hear Appeal
The California State Supreme Court has refused to hear the appeal of the decision against the group known as "Citizens For a Megaplex Free Alameda". This was their last legal recourse and it's now closed to them. Upon hearing the court's decision, their lawyer said,"we have no where else to go".
We are obviously happy the High Court sided with the City of Alameda. In addition, the High Court refused to unpublish the first two decisions of the trial court and the court of appeals. This means the case and the appeal can be used by other cities as precident when they want to develop blight properties such as the historic theatre. The previous decisions and this decision of the Supreme Court validates our contention the opponents to the project never did have a legitimate claim against the City and the project.
PSBA would like to thank the council and city staff for staying the course of the project and guiding us to the successful completion of the legal challenge.

This is a picture of the main auditorium. You can see the flat roller rink floor is gone. Work is progressing well on the inside rehab of the theatre.
This picture was taken from the front of the main auditorium. It’s not a very good picture, but if you look at the bottom, you’ll see the extent of the working being done.
This is just part of the work being done on the mezzanine level of the theatre.
